6 Quick Tips for Living a Better Life

design your life Feb 08, 2022

Living a better life doesn't have to be difficult. Just being aware of some things you can do is a good start. Today I want to share with you 6 quick tips for living a better life.

As you go through these tips, ask yourself how you're doing in that area and how you can improve. Improving even just a little bit, in order to feel like your life is heading in the direction you envision, will make a huge difference.

Many of us just go about our days, wanting things to be different, but not really knowing where or how to make the changes we need to live a better life. I hope these tips can bring awareness to some things that will make a difference for you.

Keep in mind that this isn't an exhaustive list but each of these 6 things are a great start and can have a big impact for you in living your best life.

1) Having a life vision

The first step to creating a plan for your life is to know where you're headed. Not having a vision for your life is like going on a road trip without.a map. Yes, you'll eventually get "somewhere", but is that where you really want to end up?

Take some time to think about where you want to be a year, 5 years or 10 years. Something that has really helped me in this area is writing my very own Lifebook. Creating a Lifebook is like writing your ideal story. Once you've created it, you'll know exactly where you're headed and what you need to do to get there.

Having that clarity will make all the difference in the world and will definitely help you in living a better life.

2) Do some decluttering

Physical clutter definitely has an effect on us. It can drain us in so many ways! Just being surrounded by clutter is like a constant tap on your shoulder, a constant reminder of what isn't done. Make a plan to start decluttering, but don't overwhelm yourself. Start with the area that is bothering you the most.

Start a habit of decluttering for just 10 minutes a day. You'll be amazed at the improvement that can be made in that short of time period.

Mental clutter can also take its toll on us. If you're feeling overwhelmed, like there are a million things for you to do, consider doing a brain dump. Take out paper and pen, or use a note taking app on your computer, and just write down everything that's on your mind - what needs to be done, what you need to buy, home projects, work stuff, upcoming events. All of it.

Doing a brain dump, even before you start doing anything with it, will make you feel more relaxed and less overwhelmed. Go ahead, try it for yourself!

3) Staying connected

Staying connected with your loved ones is so important. We all get caught up in our lives and sometimes connecting with those we love finds itself at the bottom of our list.

This can even happen with the people we live with!! Make it a point to spend time with your loved ones, reach out and let them know you're thinking about them.

Daily connection is super important. But making time for greater connection is important too, like going on a retreat with friends or planning family outings, even if it's close to home.

4) Healthy eating

Yes, that candy bar or bag of chips might be really tasty in the moment, but pay close attention to how your body and mind feel after consuming these types of foods. My guess is, probably not so great. At least that's been my experience.

When you fill your body with vibrant + healthy foods, your body will feel better and your mind will be clearer and better able to focus. No more sluggish afternoons!

Of course this isn't always easy, but just being aware of how you feel when you eat different foods, can make a big difference. If you're curious to find out for yourself, start a food diary and you'll start noticing patterns.

5) Staying active

It's important to keep your body moving + active. In these times of mostly being stuck at home, it can be easy to fall into a rut, not making the time, or even wanting to move!

Spending just 5 to 10 minutes moving your body, will have you feeling much better. Something I started doing for a change of pace is putting on some dance workout videos on YouTube. They get you up and moving and they're fun! Even my 6-year old is doing them with me!

Try different activities, get outside when you can and change things up regularly. Just move!

6) Self-care

Self-care is one of the easiest things to push to the back burner. Yet, it is by far the most important thing you can do for yourself. You've heard this before - how can you look after others if you don't look after yourself first. Or you have to put your oxygen mask on before you put on someone else's.

These might sound cliché but they are absolutely true! Take time everyday to do something for yourself. It doesn't have to be something that takes a long time. Just make a point of doing something for you at some point during your day.

Go to bed a few minutes early to read your favourite book. Go for a walk by yourself or get up a few minutes early to enjoy your coffee before the whole house starts to stir.

And once in a while, do something a little bigger, like taking yourself on a coffee date or going to the spa.

You'll love the benefits of spending that time taking care of you. And so will everyone else around you!
